Gaps in beliefs

Image
By Stillunsure ~ Church… the Taco Bell of hungry people. T he larger the gap is between your expectations and your reality, the larger the seedbed is for bitterness and resentment. So, if you can't change your reality (drugs work at that temporarily…) then change your expectations. ...change my expectations...?,…you mean the ones that Jesus told me to expect...? You mean all the expectations Christianity said you could rely on because God doesn't lie? Like - ask and you shall receive? Like, those that put their trust in him shall never be disappointed (ashamed) Romans 10:11...? Are you talking those expectations? Because well then...it appears the bible is a made up book of random shit and real life proves it's nothing but bullocks (those are balls)… Or, God can't seem to do two things...override man's free will or do miracles when people don’t believe he can. (Mathew 13:58) “yeah, so much for sovereignty, looks like Simon Cowell ’s grandfather was ...

I’d be willing to accept the Bible as evidence…

Image
By Still Unsure ~ W henever I’m encouraged to re-consider my departure from Christianity by those that genuinely care about me, I tell them all pretty much the same thing. I’d be willing to accept the Bible alone as evidence for God – if it can be proven to be reliable. I’ve even conceded that I’d settle for just the New Testament being reliable, and we’d forget all about the OT. Most begin with the gospels and state that eye-witness accounts are reliable evidence. Agreed. An eye-witness has some credibility. But just to make sure they haven’t seen a UFO or Bigfoot too, they need to be properly vetted. The problem is; we don’t know for certain who wrote Mathew Mark Luke or John - they are “unknown” authors. If Mark and Luke actually did write their respective gospels…neither one was known as an eye-witness to Jesus’s ministry. Mark was a convert of Peter that worked alongside the Apostle as his interpreter. An eye-witness has some credibility. But just to make sure the...

The Bible is the Only Source for Truth!

Image
By Still Unsure ~ O ne of the most treasured claims of Christianity centers around the Bible being the only source of truth that people can rely on. To believers, the scriptures are absolute truth because, well – it says so right there in them that they’re true. Truth is important to people, I’m guessing it always has been. What the writers of the New Testament seemed to be focused on was getting the gospel out. The gospel was a “ new covenant ” (legal agreement) that God was making by sending Jesus. That did not go over well with everyone who either liked, or just got used to the “old covenant.” You see, up until Jesus came around, the Jews had been taught that they had the only true covenant with God. His name was Yahweh…he liked rules and hated shellfish.  So the new covenant writers put a heavy emphasis on everything they wrote as being “the truth” about God too. Again, not cool for the “ I am the Lord, I change not ” to go ahead and start changing everyth...

By still unsure ~ L ike any fine pedigree, when it comes to mental illness , I come with papers. No, not some unbelievably low iQ score or discharge forms from the local psychiatric hospital… No, these papers are in the form of some 8x10 embossed stationary that say “degree” on them. Masters in fact, the paper says I mastered my mental illness (!@#$) …I mean study of theology, so I’m kind of certified and everything. Now it would be insane of me to even suggest that Christianity, or any other religious belief system, is “crazy” and should be seen and treated like every other disease that ravages the mind, but then I’m not a doctor… so I can suggest just about anything. I can do that because I lack the training and practice of those that earned that prestigious degree, and my apologies in advance for what will undoubtedly come across as more opinion than medical science. Having said that; let the assertions fly. I consider myself mentally ill. I guess I am both a harm to myse...
