Pastor faces DWI charge

Former Shreveport City Councilman Theron Jackson was arrested early this morning on a charge of driving while intoxicated, according to booking reports.

Jackson, 41, of the 6000 block of Fox Brook Circle, was stopped by Shreveport police just after midnight for weaving in and out of traffic. Police report that a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his person and breath.

Jackson submitted to a field sobriety test and was booked into City Jail on one count of DWI first offense, the reports state.

Jackson is pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Greenwood and assistant to the chancellor at Southern University in Shreveport. He represented council District G from 2002 to 2006 and followed that effort with an unsuccessful bid for the state Senate.
